Retirement Planning Expert and Author Brad Olson Helps Clients Retire with Peace of Mind

Brad Olson has been helping people retire safely and securely for over twenty years.

Bradley M. Olson, CPA/PFS, is the founder and owner of Olson Wealth Advisory, a retirement planning firm in Cincinnati, Ohio focusing primarily on helping clients retire with peace of mind.  Olson takes his clients through the process of retiring and covers with them every aspect they need to consider to make their golden years comfortable, secure, and enjoyable.  His firm is not geared toward individuals who want to gamble their money in the stock market, but rather toward retirees who are looking for a safer and more secure alternative to Wall Street.  For over twenty years Olson has been guiding his clients toward successful retirement with outstanding results.

Attending college at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, Olson earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics with a minor in statistics and accounting.  Upon graduation he became a legislative auditor in Minnesota where he was involved in auditing various state departments and programs.  Following that position, he became a Controller at Hamline University before moving to Cincinnati in the late 1980’s, where he was a business partner and top producer in two different financial planning firms.  In 2004 he opened Olson Wealth Advisory and now helps hundreds of clients plan for a worry free retirement.

Olson is a Series 65 Licensed Investment Advisor, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and also holds the prestigious designation of Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), a CPA subspecialty designation issued through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).  He also holds insurance licenses and numerous other licenses so he can provide a wide variety of financial services to his clients.  Additionally, he is a member of the esteemed Advisors Excel, a national independently owned insurance marketing organization made up of members who are among the leading producers in the financial services industry.

Olson comments about his practice, “We do retirement planning and most of our clients are 55 and older.  We take people through the process of retiring and setting up their income streams to make sure their investments are positioned properly.  We focus on safe retirement planning.  It’s been my experience that financial peace of mind is important to my clients and we focus on that.  If a client wants to retire and wants to gamble their money in the stock market, we probably aren’t a good fit to help them with their retirement goals.  For some reason, I seem to naturally attract people who want guarantees in their retirement, want their income guaranteed, and want their investments safe and secure so they can enjoy their retirement without worrying about the market.”

Olson has talked to many people that have been beaten up financially over the last 10 or 12 years in the market and they have expressed very strongly that they don’t want to see that happen again.  He indicates that the people he talks to are not optimistic about what may be happening to Wall Street in the next 10 to 20 years.

With great sincerity, Olson relates, “I don’t view my clients as a transaction relationship.  It’s much more of a long term relationship.  When I decide to take on a client, they will probably be a client for the remainder of their retirement.”  He relates, “One client called to tell me they were thankful for the advise I had given them because I saved them from the market drop and made sure everything was OK in their retirement.  That reinforces for me why I do what I do.  That’s my overall goal, to be able to provide that kind of peace of mind for my clients.  It’s always encouraging when you hear someone express their appreciation like that.”

Most of Olson’s clients have come from referrals over the years.  He has found that satisfied clients tell their friends and co-workers who eventually also become his clients.  He says, “I believe my success is based on taking care of my clients.  I tell them the truth and tell them what they need to hear and I develop a long term relationship with them.  I have found that clients learn to trust you over time and that makes for happy, successful clients, which translates into referrals.  I tell my clients, ‘Our mission is to make your retirement dreams a reality,’ and that’s exactly what we do.”

Olson continues, “There are a lot of financial planners who are from the Wall Street world of financial advisors. Their answer to everything is invest in the market, diversify your risk away, stay in the market, time the market, and get the returns.  All those people were trained in the 80’s and 90’s when the market always rebounded and came back.  If you listen to that, and bet your retirement on that, that’s a risky way to plan your retirement.  I don’t think there is any peace of mind there.  When I sit down with a client and get them to understand risk, I may ask them, ‘Do you really want your income to depend on what the market does or what happens to the market when a nuclear reactor in Japan blows up?’  When I inform them that something totally unrelated to the market can affect the market and their retirement, most people say, ‘No, I don’t want that to affect me.’  The way I teach my clients to approach retirement is a different way to look at the world.  It’s a different mindset.  It’s a mindset of peace of mind, guaranteed income, guaranteed investments, and not having to worry if my income is going to drop, if I’m going to have anything left, or if I’m going to outlive my money.  My clients don’t have to worry about that.  But, if you listen to a Wall Street stock broker, you do have to worry about it.”

It’s very obvious when talking to Olson that he genuinely cares for his clients and wants to make sure their money is protected.  He confesses, “I grew up fiscally conservative on a farm in Minnesota which may be one of the reasons I’m risk adverse and attract clients that are risk adverse.  My clients are ordinary, hard working people who care about their families and care about their money and want to make sure it lasts for the rest of their life.  The retirement planning I do with my clients is very straight forward, there isn’t any magic to it, but it has been very effective for them.”

Olson has clients in a variety of states, but his core business is focused in the Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky areas that surround his Cincinnati based office.  Three times a year he invites his clients and their friends to attend client appreciation dinners he sponsors.  He comments, “It gives me an opportunity to say thank you to my clients and also gives me the chance to meet other people that may be able to benefit from the financial services I provide while they enjoy a very nice meal in a safe environment with a bunch of happy clients.”  Olson also holds public educational seminars on a regular basis to help people understand how to navigate through the myriad of challenges related to retirement planning.  His business is on course to increase over the next year to a point that will put Olson in the top 20 producers nationally within the prestigious Advisors Excel.

Olson is the author of Get a G.R.I.P. on Your Retirement – The 7 Common Mistakes Retirees Make With Their Money And How You Can Avoid Making Them, published in early 2012.  GRIP, an acronym for “Guaranteed Retirement Income Plan,” is the basis for the principles he uncovers in the book to help people understand how they can experience a ‘peace of mind’ retirement.   He also is a contributing author to More.Better, a book to be published later this year and destined to become a bestseller.
